Ukraine Ministry Update - August 2022

“...let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus,

the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him

endured the cross, despising the shame,

and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”

~ Hebrews 12:1-2

And so we keep on running…

Dear friends,

In our ministry in Ukraine, we are running harder than ever. Every week we are made aware of an exponentially-growing list of needs.

Our partners in various regions all over Ukraine encounter new needs every week and we want to support them. Here are some examples:

  • Maryna Dobrolyubova at Dobryi Obid, a lunch ministry in Berdichiv. They prepare meals for approximately 350 hungry people, in-crisis families, and shut-ins. They deliver free hot meals to approximately 50 shut-ins in their community on foot and by bicycle. But winter is coming and they need a vehicle. Winter in Ukraine will make it nearly impossible to deliver on foot or by bike. So we want to contribute toward their goal of purchasing a small hatchback.

  • Yra Gordienko and his team at the International Academy for the Protection of Human Rights organize and execute the evacuation of children, orphans, and those in crisis from areas in the eastern war zone. The cost of each trip range from $1000-4000 depending on the number of people being evacuated, and the number and size of the vehicles (vans vs. buses) needed.

  • Arthur Ghazaryan of World Wide Youth of Ukraine works tirelessly to support people in his community who are in need.

  • Personal support for many dear friends who lead individual ministries, need financial support during this time of war, or are displaced internally in Ukraine and abroad.

Life during wartime is oppressive. But our friends are trying to carry on. They try to return to work (assuming there is a job to return to), get their kids logged in to online schooling, and take care of daily tasks like grocery shopping, laundry, and cleaning. Many of our friends volunteer to help their neighbors and serve however they can.

It will take years, perhaps decades, for Ukrainians to rebuild their nation and their lives. We are called to help our supported ministry partners and friends so they can continue to meet basic needs and save lives. They need our help now, in the near future, and in the long term.

And so… we keep running. We run because as the war continues and people need our help. More and more people are counting on us. People need food, clothing, medicine, and care. People need rescuing from violent areas — especially children and the elderly.
